Ashcroft is a suburb of Sydney, in the local government area of the City of Liverpool, in the state of New South Wales, Australia, 35 kilometres southwest of the Sydney CBD.
As a part of the Green Valley development by the Housing Commission, the suburb was created. It was given the name Ashcroft in honour of the pioneering family in the neighbourhood who donated the land for the development’s location. The Homebush abattoir’s wholesale and retail meat operations were actively established by the Ashcroft family. In the 1890s, E.J. Ashcroft worked as a butcher in Liverpool. Despite being given a name before, Ashcroft was formally published on April 7, 1972. The Ashcroft Post Office opened on May 3rd, 1965, and it was shut down in 1985.
In Ashcroft, there were 3,585 people as per the 2016 Population Census.
4.5% of the population were Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
• People were born in Australia in 53.4% of cases. Vietnam, at 7.0%, Lebanon, at 5.5%, and Iraq, at 3.5%, were the next most popular birthplaces.
• At home, 39.5% of people only used English. Vietnamese was used 10.7% of the time, and Arabic was spoken at home 19.2% of the time.
• Islam and Catholicism were the two religions that received the most replies (both 20.6%).
The Amco Shield was won by Ashcroft High School, the first coeducational institution (now called the Arrive Alive Cup). They twice took home the Amco Shield, in 1977 and 1985. Ashcroft won the University Shield for the second time in 1976 and three more times in 1977, 1984, and 1985 to become the first city school to do it in 31 years. Additionally, they finished second in the University Shield in 1978 and the Amco Shield in 1976. The Buckley Shield was also won by Ashcroft High in 1982 and 1987. In an undisclosed year, Ashcroft Primary School also took home the Westmont Shield. One of each of the four main schoolboys rugby league championships, the Amco Shield, University Shield, Buckley Shield, and Westmont Shield, as well as numerous Parramatta and state knockouts, are only found in the neighbourhood of Ashcroft. Also in 1977, Ashcroft High provided the prelude to the Parramatta vs. St. George Grand Final rematch. The NSW CHS team narrowly defeated them.
