Badgerys Creek Maxi/Taxi service to Sydney Airport

Badgerys Creek, also known as Badgery’s Creek, is a Sydney suburb in the state of New South Wales, Australia, located approximately 41 kilometres (25 miles) west of Sydney’s central business district, within the local government areas of the City of Liverpool. It is adjacent to the suburbs of Kemps Creek and Austral and is located within Greater Western Sydney.

The neighbourhood is best known as the preferred location for a second Sydney airport. The Abbott Government confirmed the construction of the Western Sydney Airport in April 2014, with an initial construction start date of 2016, but actual construction began in September 2018 and is expected to be completed by 2026.

James Badgery, a farmer and miller of British ancestry, was granted 840 acres (3.4 km2) in the present-day neighbourhood that bears his name in 1806. His original land grant was on the north side of Elizabeth Drive; today, the CSIRO and University of Sydney use this land for agricultural research. Badgery named his property Exeter Farm, but the creek that ran through it became known as Badgery’s Creek, which was ultimately applied to the surrounding area.

Badgery acquired land to the south of his grant, and after his death in the 1880s, the area was subdivided, resulting in a significant increase in the local population. The Badgerys Creek Post Office first opened on July 10, 1894, and it closed in 1989. In 1895, a school was founded, and by 1981, the area had grown into a rural suburb with a population of 1,460.

In 1986, the Federal Government announced that Badgerys Creek would serve as the location for the Second Sydney Airport. In 1996, there were fewer than 500 residents as a result of the government’s acquisition of a number of properties for this purpose, as well as concerns about living near an airport. The population had decreased to 225 by 2016. The construction of the airport has never begun, but according to a 2012 A$8 million report on Sydney’s aviation needs, Badgerys Creek remains the best location, with construction slated to begin in 2016.
