Mulgoa Maxi/Taxi service to Sydney Airport

Mulgoa is a small town in the City of Penrith, in the western Sydney area of the Australian state of New South Wales. Around 66 kilometres west of Sydney’s CBD, you’ll find Mulgoa.
Mulgoa is located 5 miles (8.0 km) south of Penrith’s Regentville and Glenmore Park neighbourhoods.

Traditions of Indigenous Peoples
The Mulgoa, the original inhabitants of the area who spoke the Dharug language, inspired the town’s name. A black swan is thought to be the inspiration for the name. It’s not like the Mulgoa were the only ones living there. In the Mulgoa Valley, they were neighbours to the Gandangara of the Southern Highlands, whose domain included the Blue Mountains. They followed customary regulations that traced their origins to the Dreamtime and continued to control their hunter-gatherer way of existence. Bark houses (or “gunyahs”) were their commonplace dwellings. They subsisted mostly on natural flora and animals, hunting kangaroos and emus for food and gathering yams, berries, and other tubers.

Settlement in Europe
It is believed that the Mulgoa people were typically peaceful and that most of the confrontations were with the Gandangara after the arrival of the First Fleet in Sydney, but there were some brutal battles between British settlers and the local indigenous people in this area. Edward Cox, the four-year-old son of Captain William Cox, who built a famous road across the Blue Mountains in 1814, received the first government land grant in the area in 1810. As early as 1811, William Cox had The Cottage constructed there.

The considerably bigger mansion of Fernhill and its adjacent gardens were finished in the 1840s and are now part of a heritage-listed site. Sir John Jamison, a friend of Cox’s, built the grandest home in the colony, Regentville House, on a bluff above the Nepean River in 1824. In 1821, the Norton family, including James Norton (who established the first law practise in Sydney) and his parents and brother Nathaniel, received three sizable land concessions on the Nepean at Mulgoa.

St. Thomas’ Anglican Church, was opened in 1838, was the hub of Mulgoa’s religious life throughout the colonial era. Sir John Jamison was a sponsor of this first public facility in the Mulgoa Valley, which was built of sandstone and cedar on land donated by the Cox family. St. Thomas’ first rector was the Reverend Thomas Cooper Makinson. The first school in Mulgoa was located in the church and served the community until 1871–1872.
Having reached a critical mass of residents, Mulgoa was officially recognised as a municipality in 1893. Its territory encompassed a larger area than what is now included in a suburb. Council rationalisations in 1949, however, resulted in the area being merged with Penrith, St. Marys, and Castlereagh to form the larger Penrith Municipality. Mulgoa is predominantly a rural place even now in modern times.
The Mulgoa Post Office first accepted mail on September 1, 1863.
