A neighborhood of Sydney’s inner west, Newtown lies four kilometers or so southwest of the city’s central business district and is governed by both the City of Sydney and the Inner West Council in the Australian state of New South Wales.

The primary thoroughfare and hub of entertainment and commerce in Newtown is King Street. The road travels along the length of a long ridge that begins near Sydney University and rises up to the south, where it joins the Princes Highway.
