North Richmond is a semi-rural Richmond neighbourhood in the Australian state of New South Wales. North Richmond is located in the local government area of the City of Hawkesbury, 67 kilometres north-west of Sydney’s central business district. The Hawkesbury River separates it from Richmond to the south-east.

History
The Darug people are the traditional landowners of the town and surrounding territory. The area was known as Enfield during the early years of European settlement. To avoid confusion with Enfield in Sydney’s west, the name was changed later in the nineteenth century. Although it is located west of Richmond, it is considered to have been named North Richmond because it lies north of Richmond Hill. Governor Phillip called this hill while travelling up the Hawkesbury River in 1789.

John Town, a significant local landowner, opened the “Woolpack Inn” on higher ground near the river crossing in 1833. The name was changed to “Travellers’ Rest” in 1874. A more modern hotel was built next to the original inn in 1933 and renamed the “North Richmond Hotel” in 1940.

A wooden bridge was built across the Hawkesbury River in the 1860s to allow an easier crossing than the ferry or punt that had previously been utilised. It was replaced in 1905 by a higher-level bridge that was the largest reinforced concrete bridge ever built. It remained like way for the next 20 years. A railway branch line connecting Richmond and Kurrajong was opened in 1926. The railway bridge was constructed directly next to the concrete bridge. At the western end of the bridge, the line swung to the right before bending back around to cross Bells Line of Road at an angle near the intersection of Grose Vale Road. There was a train station in North Richmond. When the line was terminated in 1952, the railway bridge was incorporated into the road.
