Padstow, a suburb of Canterbury-Bankstown Council in the Australian state of New South Wales, is situated 22 kilometres south-west of Sydney’s central business district.
Padstow is mostly a residential suburb that is surrounded to the north by Bankstown and to the east by Salt Pan Creek, a creek that flows into the Georges River. The suburb’s northern end, where the M5 South Western Motorway passes through, is also home to a few minor industrial operations.

Padstow was once known as Padstow Park Estate, after the English town of Padstow. Cornish speakers should not confuse Padstow with the Irish city of the same name; the Cornish name means “the holy location of St Petrock.” Simon McGuigan’s 130 acres, Joseph Cunningham’s 50 acres (20 ha), and Michael Conroy’s 40 acres (16 ha) were all included in the estate. The economy relied primarily on farming and timber harvesting. Padstow Park’s first school opened in January 1929, and the town’s post office did so in 1927. With the opening of the train station on December 21, 1931, the region flourished, notably following World War II. The community officially adopted the name Padstow in 1939.

There is a large shopping area in and surrounding Padstow Train Station. The majority of the retail establishments may be found on the southern side, around the intersection of Howard Road and Padstow Parade; however, there is a larger concentration of stores on the northern side, past Memorial Drive and along Cahors Road.

The Padstow train station serves travellers on the Sydney Trains Airport & South Line between Riverwood and Revesby. Padstow is on many bus routes that are provided by Transdev NSW. McVicar’s Bus Services, which operated along these routes before closing in 1978, was the ancestor of these newer companies. The 927 connects Padstow to One Tree Point, at the furthest eastern end of the Heights. From Bankstown, the 962 goes to Miranda via Padstow, Illawong, Menai, and Sutherland. A ride on the S5 will take you from Milperra to Padstow. Padstow is served by the M91 and M92 Metrobus lines. Parramatta to Hurstville can be reached by M91, which passes via Granville, Chester Hill, Bankstown, Padstow, and Peakhurst on its way. Parramatta to Sutherland are connected by M92, which passes through Lidcombe, Bankstown, Padstow, and Menai.
