Ropes Crossing is a neighborhood of Blacktown, Sydney, in the Australian state of New South Wales. Ropes Crossing is part of the Greater Western Sydney region and is situated 49 kilometers west of the Sydney CBD in the local government area of the City of Blacktown.

Ropes Crossing was formerly a neighbourhood in St Marys. The Ropes Creek crossing in the neighborhood is where the suburb gets its name. Ropes Creek is a roughly 23-kilometer-long waterway that rises close to Devils Back Tunnel and flows north into South Creek. Anthony Rope, a First Fleet convict who is believed to have been awarded land fronting the stream, is the name of the creek itself.

An region where munitions from World War 2 were stored, today known as Australian Defense Industries or (ADI). In 1957, the region’s own railway line was electrified.On May 1, 1942, the line was only operational between St. Marys and Dunheved, which was 50.350 rail kilometers from Central Railway Station. On June 29, 1942, the route was operational between Dunheved and Ropes Creek, which was 53.010 rail kilometers from Sydney.

Cochrane, a new station at a location 52.480 rail kilometers from Sydney, was erected when electrification was extended on the western line in the late 1950s. It was inaugurated on September 2, 1957. The line carried primarily munitions freight and provided passenger services for munitions workers in the morning and afternoon.As the line’s lifespan came to an end, the only movement on it was the sporadic arrival of scrap metal trains at Sims Metal, which was situated off the Up line just south of Dunheved. When these trains were in operation, they were driven to Dunheved, where the locomotive circled the train before returning to the Sims Metal Siding to shunt full cars in and empty cars out as needed.
