After some time, he moved to Strippers Point, renamed the town Sandringham, and constructed the Prince of Wales Hotel in that location. It is said that, being an enthusiastic monarchist, he selected the name in order to pay tribute to Edward VII, Prince of Wales, who, in the year 1872, was also building a royal residence at Sandringham, which is located in Norfolk, England.
Seven Mile Beach was the traditional name for the stretch of coastline that may be found between Cooks River and Georges River. In 1874, the name of the beach was changed to Lady Robinson’s Beach in honour of Lady Robinson, who was married to Governor Sir Hercules Robinson. Samuel Cook, a supporter of providing recreational opportunities for the general people, inspired the naming of Cook Park.
