In Australia’s New South Wales, in the city of Sydney, is Shanes Park. Within the City of Blacktown local government area and the Greater Western Sydney region, Shanes Park is situated 50 kilometres west of Sydney’s CBD.
The Commonwealth of Australia bought Shane’s Park’s eastern section in 1960 to make room for an aviation navigational facility. This facility has left behind a lot of historical legacy. Due to the small amount of acreage needed, the majority of the site’s bushland was preserved, while some other sections underwent natural regeneration. Currently, one of the Cumberland Plain’s greatest remnant forests is located on the 560 site known as “Shane’s Park” (western Sydney).
The Shane’s Park woodland has a variety of vulnerable, endangered, and critically endangered flora, wildlife, and ecological groups and may be the most intact remains of the greenery that formerly blanketed western Sydney. The woodland bird population at the location, which includes the speckled warbler, is particularly well-known.Public access to the website is prohibited.
The site’s current owners, Air Services Australia (a Federal government organization), believe it to be surplus to their requirements and want to transfer ownership to the government of New South Wales as a public reserve. The NSW government must declare the property a regional park in accordance with the Deed of Agreement for Transfer. Conflict has arisen over this requirement with several neighborhood organizations. A regional park’s sole aim is for enjoyment, according to the National Parks & Wildlife Act (section 30 H), which does not need management for wildlife conservation.
The site will probably be merged into the nearby (under construction) Wianamatta Regional Park if the deed is signed. The proposals for Wianamatta Regional Park, which include commercial leisure alternatives, fencing, and the culling of native wildlife populations for public safety, were similarly opposed by those who opposed the regional park gazettal for Shane’s Park.
