Sydney’s suburb of Summer Hill is located in Australia’s New South Wales. Summer Hill is a locality in the Inner West Council’s local government area, 7 kilometers west of Sydney’s CBD.
Summer Hill is predominantly a residential neighborhood in Sydney’s Inner West, close to Parramatta Road and Liverpool Road, two of the city’s main thoroughfares. Henry Kable, a former prisoner, and jailer received the first land grant in 1794. The suburb started to expand after the Main Suburban railway station opened in 1879.
The district had grown somewhat upper class by the 1920s, with sprawling estates and mansions constructed all across the suburb. Some of these do so even now. After becoming a working-class suburb in the middle of the 20th century, when many of the huge estates were destroyed or divided, the suburb now has a “village” feel and is made up of a mixture of medium-density apartment buildings and federation homes.
