Vineyard is a suburb of Sydney, located in the Australian state of New South Wales. Vineyard is situated in the local government area of the City of Blacktown with a portion of it in the City of Hawkesbury, 50 kilometers west of the Sydney CBD. The Greater Western Sydney area includes Vineyard. Up until it meets South Creek, a tributary of the Hawkesbury River, it is bordered in the west by Eastern Creek.
Given that this suburb was formerly a wine-growing region, Vineyard got its name from the nearby vineyards.
John Paul Ouvrier, who had emigrated from France with his two sons in the 1830s, founded the first vineyard. He changed his name from Jean Pierre Ouvrier to John Paul when he was naturalized as an Australian citizen in 1860.
Vineyard is positioned halfway between the Windsor Road, which runs from Windsor to North Parramatta, and the Richmond Road, which connects Blacktown and Richmond. Windsor Road is currently being upgraded to four lanes as of December 2006.
Vineyard railway station is located between Blacktown and Richmond on the North Shore, Northern & Western Line of the Sydney Trains system. It offers consistent electric commuter train service in both directions.
