Wentworth Falls (postcode: 2782) is a town in the Blue Mountains region of New South Wales, On the Great Western Highway, roughly 100 kilometres west of Sydney’s central business area and 8 kilometres east of Katoomba, is the Wentworth Falls railway station on the Main Western line. The settlement is 867 metres above sea level AHD. Wentworth Falls had a population of 6,076 at the time of the 2016 census.

Wentworth Falls has a variety of festivals and events, including the Wentworth Falls Autumn Festival in April, the Wentworth Falls Public School Art and Craft Show in October, and the Task Force 72 Annual Regatta, which takes place in November or December. Wentworth Falls is the home of the Wentworth Falls Cricket Club, or WFCC. It is one of the oldest cricket clubs in the Blue Mountains, having been founded in 1892.
Kings Tableland, a plateau in the south-eastern corner of Wentworth Falls, features places of significant archaeological significance, including the Kings Tableland Aboriginal Site. The Gandangara, Darug, and Wiradjuri hold this region in high regard. The region has been used as a meeting site for at least 22,000 years and contains a range of cultural characteristics, such as engravings, axe-grinding grooves, modified rock pools, and an occupied shelter.

Originally known as The Weatherboard after the ‘Weatherboard Inn’ was constructed in 1814, the town was renamed Jamison’s Valley by Governor Lachlan Macquarie in 1815 in honour of Sir John Jamison, the foremost private citizen of the colony. In July 1867, the first train trip to the Blue Mountains began in Penrith and ended at Weatherboard Station. The surrounding waterfalls were named after William Charles Wentworth, a companion of John Jamison who led the 1813 expedition to cross the Rockies.

Pitt Park is located on the northern edge of town. In 1826, the Bathurst Traveller, which was later called the Weatherboard Inn, was constructed on this site. The local war memorial is presently located on the land near to the train station. Charles Darwin is said to have stayed there in 1836, walked from the inn along Jamison Creek to the cliff’s edge, concerning which he wrote, “an enormous chasm unexpectedly opens through the trees, possibly 1,500 feet deep.” 1986 saw the opening of the Charles Darwin Walk, which connects Wilson Park opposite the School of Arts to the northern escarpment of Jamison Valley.

Additionally, the Kings Tableland region was originally home to a deer park, which ceased operations in the late 1980s and eventually passed into private ownership. Until they were eradicated by National Parks rangers, several deer were spotted in the region for some time. This region is also the location of the historic Queen Victoria Sanitorium, a prominent tuberculosis treatment institution. Since its closure in the 1980s, the site’s ownership has fluctuated between the government and various commercial interests. The former hospital has been the subject of sporadic development ideas, which have raised some local anxiety.
