Wollstonecraft is a harbourside neighbourhood on the lower North Shore of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, four kilometres north of the Sydney central business district and within the North Sydney Council local government area.
Edward Wollstonecraft, the first settler to receive a land grant of 500 acres in the area in 1821, was honoured with the naming of Wollstonecraft. Wollstonecraft left England to pursue wealth for himself and his sister Elizabeth and to avoid the notoriety of his aunt, the author of A Vindication of the Rights of Woman, Mary Wollstonecraft.
Alexander Berry, a business companion of Edward Wollstonecraft, was a prominent local resident[4] and the namesake of Berry Island, a harbour-side locality in Wollstonecraft.
Prior to the introduction of European settlers, the area was part of the Cammeraygal people’s traditional territory within the Eora country.
