An inner-city, harborside neighborhood of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia is called Woolloomooloo. The local government area of the City of Sydney includes Woolloomooloo, which is 1.5 kilometers east of the Sydney CBD. At the head of Woolloomooloo Bay on Sydney Harbour, it is located in a low-lying historic docklands neighborhood. The suburb’s southwest corner is close to the neighborhood of East Sydney, and its southeast corner is close to the neighborhood of Kings Cross. The Domain is located to the west of the neighborhood. To the east is immediately Potts Point. Woolloomooloo was once a working-class neighborhood in Sydney; only recently, with the gentrification of Sydney’s inner cities, has it changed. A significant change has resulted from the waterfront’s reconstruction, particularly the housing project that was built on Finger Wharf. In the suburb, there are still some areas with public housing (Housing NSW, sometimes known as “Housing Commission”).
