In the Australian state of New South Wales, you’ll find the city of Yarramundi to be a suburb of Sydney. Yarramundi can be found in the City of Hawkesbury’s local government area; it is situated 69 kilometres to the west of the Sydney core business district.

Yarramundi, a member of the Boorooberongal clan of the Darug people, is honoured with the naming of this residential area in Australia. The Europeans referred to him as “the head of the Richmond Tribe,” despite the fact that he was a garadyi, also known as a “doctor.”

Kearns Retreat was the old name for this part of the landscape.

In 1925, a sand mine was developed on the island of Nepean at Yarramundi Falls by Nepean Sand and Gravel Company. An aerial ropeway connected the island with the railway sidings near Phillip, which was the location where the railroad that used to go to Kurrajong crossed the river. In 1927, in the wake of a flood that had wrecked the ropeway, new rails were built from the existing sidings to the mine that was located on the island. This railroad was run by the company using their own locomotives. In July of 1946, the mode of transportation was changed to road trucks.
